When structural deficiencies were found on the bridge over the Tregnone River on Strada Proviciale 47/a in Casaleone, it was closed immediately. Because the route is critical to local and commercial traffic and with no reasonable alternate passage available, finding a solution as quickly as possible became an immediate concern.
Selected as a result of a cost-benefit evaluation, an Acrow Beam Bridge reopened the route – a modular structure of 10.67 meters (35′) long by 3.67 meters (12′) wide. The installation took just three hours, including preparation of the bearings on the concrete abutments, pre-assembly of the side guard rail barriers on the beam bridge segments, the lift-in placement of the two segments onto the bearings and the completion of the guard rails. The bridge was opened 10 days later, after load testing and asphalt surfacing of the approaches.
The Province of Verona opted to rent the structure for an initial period of 12 months, during which time there are plans for a permanent replacement to be developed.
