Acrow Congratulates New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Steel Bridge Team
Engineering students advance to prestigious national competition after winning regional event
Acrow, a leading international bridge engineering and supply company, extends its congratulations to the New Jersey Institute of Technology’s (NJIT) Steel Bridge Team for their outstanding performance in the regional level of the 2024 Student Steel Bridge Competition (SSBC). After winning first place overall among eight teams in the Metropolitan division competition in New York April 12-14, 2024, the team will advance to the national finals, which will be held May 31-June 1 at Louisiana Tech University. Acrow is a longtime corporate supporter of the NJIT Steel Bridge Team.

The SSBC is an annual event sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and open to North American schools with ASCE student chapters. The first event was held in 1987, and annually, more than 200 teams of engineering students take part in regional competitions, with qualifying teams advancing to the national finals, where students are challenged to design, fabricate, and test a structure that meets hypothetical client specifications. The NJIT team has competed at the national finals on numerous occasions in the past, and last year ranked particularly well in the category of construction speed.
Bill Killeen, CEO of Acrow and 1983 NJIT graduate, said, “We are proud to be a corporate partner to the NJIT Steel Bridge Team, and congratulate this year’s talented team on a very impressive showing at the SSBC regionals. This is a wonderful program that expands past the classroom to challenge students in a ‘real-world’ engineering scenario, while encouraging innovation and collaboration with team members and other industry professionals. We wish the team the very best of luck in the Finals.”
